These were taken at Pt Lobos State Reserve 2.20.10. on the cliff edges in the Alan Memorial Grove area.The orange lichen contains beta carotene - yep- the same stuff found in carrots, but I don't recommend eating it.
The lichen is non parasitic and doesn't harm the surrounding plants. Next time I'm bringing the plastic mermaids.
